Protecting Reproductive Rights

Speaking up for my patients to have access to health care and autonomy is part of preventative medicine and primary care.

Today I joined Governor Gretchen Whitmer at a roundtable discussion on reproductive rights with other Michigan residents fighting for women’s health rights.

As a family doctor and black woman I’m well aware of the health disparities and impact of having poor health access and bias in health care. Harris Family Health is a safe space for people to get quality care for women and men.

It’s important for patients to be able to access safe and quality care as well as for doctors to be able to provide evidence based care and improve health outcomes.

Reproductive rights are broad and go beyond the difficult topics. The consequences of barriers and restrictions does more harm than good. Modern medicine is amazing but we have to be able to let doctors provide it and we have to be able to let people choose it.

Great summary in the video below and here from WNEMTV5news and Daily Mail here from the roundtable with Governor Gretchen Whitmer with some words from me as a family medicine doctor in Flint.

"Tying the doctors hands behind their backs when they want to provide something is not going to be safe for people." - Dr Aisha Harris, Harris Family Health
